Procurement Officer


Our International Trade Cluster is looking for a Procurement Officer (Chemicals and Fertilizers). The job incumbent will be responsible for sourcing, procuring, and managing the supply of chemicals and related materials essential to our operations. He/She will play a critical role in ensuring that our organization has access to high-quality chemicals while optimizing costs, mitigating risks, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

The key responsibilities and tasks will include the following but not limited to: 

  • Identify, evaluate, and select reliable suppliers of chemicals and related materials through market research and supplier assessments.
  • Negotiate favorable terms and conditions, including pricing, delivery schedules, and quality standards, with selected suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery, resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement in supplier performance.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including research and development, production, and safety teams, to understand their chemical requirements and provide procurement support.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and regulatory changes in the chemical industry to inform procurement decisions and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and safety protocols governing the procurement and handling of chemicals/fertilizers.
  • Manage the procurement process from requisition to payment, including issuing purchase orders, tracking deliveries, and resolving invoicing discrepancies.
  • Analyze spending patterns, supplier performance, and procurement metrics to identify areas for process improvement and cost optimization.
  • Maintain accurate records of procurement activities, contracts, and supplier information, ensuring compliance with audit requirements and internal policies.

Profile & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree/diploma in supply chain management or a related field.
  • Proven experience in procurement, supply chain management, or purchasing roles, preferably in the chemical industry.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical products, properties, applications, and safety requirements.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in sourcing strategies, supplier evaluation, contract negotiation, and procurement best practices.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements for chemical procurement and other relevant regulations.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven procurement decisions.
  • Proficient in using procurement software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in procurement, supply chain management or related fields
  • Experience working in a manufacturing OR chemical processing environment.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and environmental considerations in chemical procurement.
